The Shodyssey

In this comedy, new life is breathed into fire-side stories and the “real” history of ancient Greece is presented as never before.

The sort-of truth behind Achilles heel, the face that very nearly launched a thousand ships, the twelve accidental labours of Hercules and more will be revealed.

Originally commissioned for Outpost Festival 2014 by New Model Theatre, Assembleth are delighted to be re-vamping this cult classic. Grecian Theatre like you've never seen it before!

“A very funny 60-minute romp through mythology with much stomping about and clattering of swords. There’s carnage, chaos and a huge amount of humour as five Assembleth's populate Greece, Troy and a doorless wooden horse.”

"A great comedy play, and a refreshing, modern way to return to ancient Greece" - The Knowledge.

Shakespeare’s Avengers Assembleth:
All’s War That Ends War

Shakespeare’s Avengers Assembleth: All’s War that Ends War is a new comedy in the Assembleth series. It was created by award winning theatre company Assembleth for Shakespeare’s Birthplace, where it is set to premiere in June 2018.

We welcome audiences to Bardland, where war has raged for as long as anyone can remember, and winters last a lifetime (but not nearly as long as King Lear). The Histories, spearheaded by King Richard III, control the South, whilst the Tragedies – led by the Manic Price Hamlet, have claimed the North as the two ancient factions battle for dominion over the land.

However, an old power is on the move. Infuriated by both sides’ refusal to acknowledge that the Comedies are funny, Sir John Falstaff has gathered an army, and is hunting down the Shakespeare Stones – echoes of their creator – to re-forge the oldest weapon in the world: The Infinity Boot. A new bard will be born.

Join Assembleth as they take you to a world where all of Shakespeare’s creations live, laugh and love together. Full of tragedy, history and lashings of comedy!

Show Premiere:

Shakespeare’s Birthplace Trust,

Stratford-upon Avon, 2nd June 2018

Shakespeare’s Avengers Assembleth:
Age of Oberon

Oberon's gone mad. We're talking full-on Hamlet. The fairy king of Midsummer has kidnapped William Shakespeare, Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. (Shakespearean Heroes International Evil Lessening Division). and his mischievous sidekick Puck, has brought him the Infinity Quill. A quill unlike any other, for the Infinity Quill has the power to rewrite history itself and forge a new future at the will of its master.

Slightly anxious of the scenario that is unfolding, Shakespeare's greatest heroes (and Brutus), decide that they should do something to stop the oncoming apocalypse. Under instructions from Puck they head to Midsummers Forest. Shakespeare's Avengers have assemblethed.

Dependence Day

John Penhaligon, leader of the Cornish Independence Party, is a man on a mission; a mission to liberate his homeland. A mission to free the country he loves from a country he is at best indifferent to and at worst one he doesn’t really like that much. Armed with nothing but a gut fill of passion and his own incompetence,

Penhaligon, together with his smooth-talking PR man Tom Trehaven and intern Phil, vow to battle against the maligned pro-together campaign. From carefully crafted TV interviews, to completely destructive publicity stunts, all aspects of a proper independence bid are covered in this not at all reactionary piece.

First Shown: The House Studio, Plymouth, Plymouth Fringe Festival 2015.

Shakespeare’s Avengers Assembleth:

The origins of SHIELD (Shakespearean Heroes International Evil Lessening Division) are told as William Shakespeare is tasked by Elizabeth I to write a play so engrossing that it detracts the population of London from an upcoming papal visit with a secret agenda. Later they will be known as his avengers but here Romeo, Hamlet, Ophelia, Brutus and the Macbeths are forced to team up for the first time.
